The Irish numeric system is very complicated. To express the dual number, for example, there are several choices, depending on the context: ‘dó’, ‘dhá’, ‘beirt’, ‘dara’ / ‘dóú’. The rules of the numeric system have been integrated into the synthesiser so that it can read ‘1/2’ as ‘leath’, ‘€2’ as ‘dhá euro’, ‘2 chailíní’ as ‘beirt chailíní’, ‘1 nó 2’ as ‘ceann nó dhó’ and ‘seomra 2’ as ‘seomra a dó’. This is useful for reading out the time or for pointing out the difference between the various forms of the numbers, such as ‘dhá’ and ‘beirt’.
